Our portfolio project

This week we have been deciding what type of film we might do. At first I wanted to do an horror comedy film but my group said it would be to difficult since there’s not a lot of common appropriate horror comedy that we can find so instead we all agreed on just doing a horror. A summary of the story that we came up; This project will be about a small town in Bulowville, Florida. It was a hot, sunny day, but little did people know there was a murder happening. This was one of the first murders. Young boys and girls were its victims, it stalks its next victim for 3 days until it kills them. When it is done, the victim is skinned, chopped up, and buried in a shallow grave. What does it look like? You never know one day it will be wearing a clown suit the next day it will look like you friendly mail man. This continued until suddenly one of the neighbors died and all the murders stopped.

We don't have a lot more than this but we just started to make a detailed short story of the full movie and then create a 2 minute opening of the short story. The way that we decide to write our story was: one person does the exposition, one person does the raising action, one does the climax, and the last person does falling action and resolution. For the next few weeks we will be doing our portfolio and updating my blog twice a week. This project will take over four months to due but we are taking it step-by-step. Next week we will start our script writing but we are also working on a detailed short story right now.

How I feel about this project

Since we are just starting to start this portfolio I feel kind of nervous and overwhelmed but I also feel excited on doing this because it sounds like it would be fun recording and making these 2 minute videos. I’m also happy with the group I’m working with because it’ll be fun to work with them since we also have gotten closer in the week. Overall I feel like the rest of this school year is going to fun yet stressful.

Genre

Introduction In class we learned about genre. Genre is just a category of a film. Examples can be horror, comedy, action, romance, etc. Genre was probably the most easiest to learn because people talk about different genres everyday not only in film but also in books and other things. In class, we learned about different film openings. For example there is Flashbacks, Flash forward, Dreams, etc. The opening scene in a film is the most important part because it has to hook your audience to watch your film. The opening scene also gives some information about what the audience might see during the film. This keeps them curious and wanting to know more about the film. What is an opening scene? An opening scene is how the movie basically gives information about what’s going to happen during the film. Cinematography

Cinematography In class we learned about cinematography. From just looking at the word I thought it was going to be hard. It wasn't that hard to understand but it was kind of easy to understand. Cinematography is the art and technology of motion picture photography. So its mostly about the cameras movement, angles, and shots and what they are used for in general . Shots There are many type of camera shots but I won't talk about all I will just give a couple basic ones. First we got a Close up shot which is where the frame has just the head or face of the character in the screen. Its mostly used to show the emotion of the characters. Next we have a Long Shot which's shows the character form top to bottom without filling the screen. This shot is used to set the scene and the characters place in that scene.
