Editors review

In class, we are learning about different websites we can use to edit our videos. We were given two websites and then had to find a third website. In this blog you will read about the process of which it took to find and learn about the websites and what each website provides for editing.

STEP 1: learn about our two given websites

As already told, we were given two websites. Our first website is Openshot.org and the second is Clipchamp.com. Both have good qualities for editing but both do have some differences.

Openshot.com

  • Provides unlimited tracks so can add multiple layers for watermarks, backgrounds, audio track, etc.
  • Can drag and drop videos, audio, or images from file manger into Openshot
  • Can quickly trim down videos and find those perfect moments
  • Can fade, slide, bounce, and animate your projects
  • can visualize audio as waveform and even output the waveforms as part of video

Clipchamp.com

  • Can trim videos to remove unwanted parts
  • Can add images or adjust audio levels and add multiple audio tracks or mute or replace audio completely
  • Adjust and balance colors manually

STEP 2: Research for a third website

This part of the process was probably the hardest because it takes a long time top find a website that meets the requirements for good editing. Also the part of the process made me feel like giving up because of  how many websites I went into and those didn't meet requirement During my researching I found a bunch of websites that look like it would reach requirement but I read into it and it didn't. The website I decided to choose was Descrpit.com.

Descript.com

  • Has multitrack so you can scale position layers of audio, videos, images, GIFs, etc.
  • Is non-destructive so it can preserve your original file as you edit
  • Has titles and captions so you can add intro, title cards, caption to ensure that your videos re accessible without sound.
  • Has transitions so that you can insert transitions between scenes, sections, and cuts for smooth flow
  • Also has keyframe animations so you can zoom ion on key elements or animate layers and objects
What are the similarities?

  • All three provided unlimited track so your able to add multiple layers of the audio, video, or watermarks
  • First two your able to drag and drop images, video, or audio
  • You can animate the video on all three
My overall choice
My overall choice is Cilpchamp.org because it seems like it would be easier to understand how to use and also has many good features that would make my portfolio better. But my second choice would be Openshot.org because descript sounds like a good editor but it kind of is not the best choice to go through by overall view and the other two just seem way more easier to understand.

Genre

Introduction In class we learned about genre. Genre is just a category of a film. Examples can be horror, comedy, action, romance, etc. Genre was probably the most easiest to learn because people talk about different genres everyday not only in film but also in books and other things. My personal favorite is horror comedy because while I am get scared and throwing things I also get some laughter out of it. Some types of genres can be mixed together and balanced out.  Examples Horror comedy - Literary, television, and film genre that combines comedy and horror to form horror comedy Horror comedy mixes horror with comedy to balance out the amount of laughter and the amount of thriller. Horror comedy has been around since 1920s. The first horror comedy was "One exiting night". it was directed by  D. W. Griffith. Stereotypes in this genre is in the horror genre but put into a comedic way.  Sci-fi - a form of fiction that deals principally with the impact of actual or im...

Opening scene

In class, we learned about different film openings. For example there is Flashbacks, Flash forward, Dreams, etc. The opening scene in a film is the most important part because it has to hook your audience to watch your film. The opening scene also gives some information about what the audience might see during the film. This keeps them curious and wanting to know more about the film.  What is an opening scene? An opening scene is how the movie basically gives information about what’s going to happen during the film. Sometimes the opening scene shows death, lovers coming together or lovers having relationship problems, potential marriage, etc. In opening scenes it also shows the character(s) you should be focusing on the most.  What is an opening scene? Cinematography

Cinematography  In class we learned about cinematography. From just looking at the word I thought it was going to be hard. It wasn't that hard to understand but it was kind of easy to understand. Cinematography is the art and technology of motion picture photography. So its mostly about the cameras movement, angles, and shots and what they are used for in general . Shots There are many type of camera shots but I won't talk about all I will just give a couple basic ones. First we got a Close up shot which is where the frame has just the head or face of the character in the screen. Its mostly used to show the emotion of the characters. Next we have a Long Shot which's shows the character form top to bottom without filling the screen. This shot is used to set the scene and the characters place in that scene. The last one I will give is Full Shot which is where the camera shows the character from top to bottom filling the frame. Its used to show more action rather than showing...
